In my journey, I’ve had the privilege of meeting extraordinary individuals who are making a profound impact on their communities like Shallon Mugabe, the founding partner of the Franklin Institute of Leadership and Public Management in Uganda. I met Shallon through the Maxwell Leadership Foundation, and I’m thrilled to introduce you to this transformational leader.
Shallon embodies how one person’s growth can create a ripple effect that touches the lives of thousands. Read on and you’ll discover how her quest for mentorship and personal growth as a public servant led her to experience the Maxwell Transformation Tables. This experience inspired her to pay it forward in a way that is positively impacting her country.
A Quest for Mentorship Sparks a Nationwide Movement
Shallon’s journey began with a simple quest for mentorship in her public service role. This led her to The Maxwell Leadership Foundation, where she experienced a personal transformation that ignited a passion to empower others. What started as a personal growth journey has now blossomed into a nationwide movement, touching thousands of lives across Uganda.
At the heart of Shallon’s work is the Franklyn Institute of Leadership and Public Management. Through this organization, she has created a ripple effect of transformation that is reshaping the future of Uganda. The institute’s approach is both simple and powerful: they are dedicated to developing and nurturing transformational and effective leaders who create positive and powerful change in the public sector.
A Grassroots Approach to Leadership Development
What’s truly remarkable about Shallon’s work is the organic way it has spread. The participants who complete the Transformation Tables don’t just walk away with new knowledge – they become ambassadors, eager to share what they’ve learned with others.
The transformation doesn’t stop at the individual level. Shallon’s program has created a ripple effect that’s touching entire communities. Her recent cohort of 25 tables and roughly 200 people has now finished their Transformation Tables experience. These individuals who have been transformed are now paying it forward by reaching out to 50 schools to provide the Transformation Tables experience for teachers and students.
This approach is truly inspiring. Each table of 8 adults takes responsibility for a school, creating a network of mentorship and leadership development that reaches deep into the education system. In just a short time, they’ve engaged approximately 300 teachers, and over 3,000 students with plans to reach 50 more schools in the coming year.
Faith, Resources, and the Power of Starting Small
What strikes me most about Shallon’s story is her unwavering faith and commitment. She didn’t wait until she had all the resources or a perfect plan. Instead, she took that first step, trusting that the path would unfold before her.
As she beautifully expressed, “If I had thought through how much resources are needed for this transformation, maybe I would have been threatened. But guess what, two years into the program, the program is going on with resources that people give.”
This faith-driven approach has led to an incredible outpouring of support. The entire program runs on voluntary efforts, with ambassadors giving their time and expertise freely.
Shallon’s vision doesn’t stop at Uganda’s borders. She sees this model of leadership development as something that can transform all of East Africa and potentially beyond. “If it works in Uganda, it will work in East Africa and it can work anywhere else. That’s my belief, that’s my faith. And I’m willing to give it my best and my all to see it happen,” she says with conviction.

Your Turn to Create Ripples of Change
Shallon’s story is a powerful reminder that transformational leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about having a vision, taking action, and inspiring others to join the journey. Her advice resonates deeply with me: “If you get the lesson, pass it on.”
This philosophy embodies the true essence of transformational leadership. It’s not just about personal growth, but about creating a ripple effect that touches and transforms countless lives.
Let’s take inspiration from Shallon’s journey and become catalysts for change in our own spheres of influence. After all, that’s what transformational leadership is all about – inspiring, equipping, and challenging ourselves and others to change the world around us.
I want to challenge you to think about how you can create your own ripple effect of positive change. What’s one thing you can do this week to make a difference, either in yourself or in those around you? Remember, it doesn’t have to be grand – even small actions can lead to significant transformations.
As Shallon wisely advises, “I would tell anyone wherever they are, if they desire it, they should simply put their foot forward, follow it with another…. Do what you can do.” So, what will your first step be?
